(Maternal-Fetal Medicine)
Pregnancy is a joyous occasion in the life of a women; however, complex maternal and/or fetal conditions can often make the mother-to-be feel anxious and stressed. Reassurance of fetal well-being is especially important in the setting of a complicated pregnancy.
Our perinatologists are experienced in a wide variety of complex maternal-fetal conditions and will work with you to make your pregnancy as stress-free as possible.

What Is Perinatology?
"Perinatology" is derived from the Greek term "peri-" meaning "around or about", "natal" from the Latin term "natus" meaning "born" and "ology" from the Greek term "logos" meaning "treatise or study of." Another term used to describe a Perinatologist is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist.
Perinatology is a subspecialty of obstetrics. Physicians specializing in this area are called Perinatologists, these are doctors who have had extensive training in the field of high risk obstetrics. Perinatologists are concerned with the care of the mother and fetus at higher-than-normal risk for complications. Perinatologists often work in conjunction with Prenatal Genetic Counselors and neonatal health professionals so that you get the most comprehensive information related to your pregnancy.
Some patients may be referred to a Perinatologist if their fetus has a suspected or known abnormality, an abnormal karyotype (such as Down syndrome), or a maternal condition which may affect the fetus. Patients can be referred at any point during their pregnancy at the discretion of their referring obstetrician.
