Lisa Kolp, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Gynecology

Dr. Kolp completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Virginia in 1989. She was on the faculty at the University of Virginia until 1999 when she joined the faculty of the Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Dr. Kolp sees a full spectrum of infertility and reproductive endocrinology patients: primary and secondary infertility, endometriosis, uterine anomalies and fibroids, developmental abnormalities in teenagers, cancer survivors, recurent pregnancy loss, and peri- and post-menopausal women, among others.

Dr. Kolp 's laboratory is investigating methods of cryopreserving (or freezing) ovarian tissue for women who are facing potentially sterilizing cancer treatment. Active research is underway at Johns Hopkins and other institutions to determine the best way to freeze bits of ovarian tissue. It is likely that within a few years the technology will be available to culture the bits of ovarian tissue in a laboratory setting and retrieve mature fertilizable eggs from them. While this has not yet been done successfully in humans, it has been done in animals. We hope to be able to offer this service in the near future for fertility preservation in cancer patients.

Dr. Kolp's outpatient practice is at Johns Hopkins at Greenspring Station.
