Edward E. Wallach, M.D.
J. Donald Woodruff Professor
Director, Assisted Reproductive Technologies Program

Dr. Wallach is the J. Donald Woodruff Professor of Gynecology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he served for 10 years as the Chair of The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He is Director of The Department's Program in Assisted Reproductive Technology. A graduate of Swarthmore College, Dr. Wallach received his medical degree at Cornell University Medical College. After a straight medicine internship at The Cornell Division of Bellevue Hospital, he trained in obstetrics and gynecology at Kings County Hospital and had his fellowship in Reproductive Biology at The Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology. He spent 19 years on the faculty at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and served as Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital before assuming the Chair at Johns Hopkins. He received support from the NIH for almost 20 years for his research on the physiology of ovulation.

As Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital (1971-1984) and Chairman of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (1984-1994), Dr. Wallach has been responsible for the specialty training of almost 150 residents as well as for numerous clinical and research fellows. During 13 years as Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital and 10 years as Chairperson at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Wallach's commitment to faculty development have led to the appointment of ten of his junior faculty as Chairs of Medical School Departments as well as numerous others to Division Directorship positions. During his career he has served in other leadership positions, including: Presidency of the American Fertility Society (1985-1986); Presidency of The Society for Gynecologic Investigation (1986-1987); Presidency of The Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia; Vice-Presidency of The American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society (1984-1985); Membership and Director on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1989-1997); Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology of The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1989-1994); Membership in The Institute of Medicine of The National Academy of Sciences (1995); Membership on the Board of Directors of The American Board of Emergency Medicine (1988); Member of the Board of Director, and member of the Committee of Medical, Scientific and Professional Advisors, of The Gaza Institute for Women's Medicine, Rishon Le Zion, Israel (1999).

Dr. Wallach's outpatient practice is at Johns Hopkins at Greenspring Station.
