Our Mission

Greetings Dear Colleague,

Thank you for inquiring about training in the Gynecology and Obstetrics House Staff Program at Johns Hopkins University. The goal of our residency training program is to train superb, inquisitive physicians who are equipped to become leaders in gynecology and obstetrics. To that end, the department provides four years of comprehensive training in general gynecology and obstetrics as well as significant exposure to the sub-specialties of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology. The program offers a wide variety of experiences in both acute and ambulatory gynecology and obstetrics. Our residents rotate at three different hospitals, Johns Hopkins Hospital (a sub-specialty oriented tertiary care center), Greater Baltimore Medical Center (a large community hospital with a high volume of general obstetrics and gynecology), and John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (a smaller community hospital staffed by academic general obstetrician/gynecologists with a strong interest in international medicine). In addition, there are numerous opportunities to develop scholarship in research, teaching and patient care.

This is an exciting and dynamic program in which to train. We pride ourselves on working within a "culture of discovery" in which we strive both to seek out and impart new knowledge as well as provide our patients with the best medical care available anywhere. Founded in 1895 by Howard Kelly, our department has been home to such luminaries as Johns Whitridge Williams, Nicholson J. Eastman, and Richard TeLinde. Today, our faculty continue this long tradition of excellence. In addition to being intellectually stimulating, ours is a supportive program in which the residents and faculty work as a team.
